Nico graduated from art school in Germany ( 1991 ) and moved to Paris to work with Partizan / Midi Minuit, gaining recognition for projects with Thierry Muggler, MTV Europe and Swatch. In 1992, he joined Propaganda Films in Hollywood, directing music videos for Suzanne Vega, The Cocteau Twins, The Verve , Erasure, They Might be Giants and Tony, Toni Toné. By 1996, he had established himself as one of Europe’s most looked at, young directors, shooting campaigns for Nike, Mercedes Benz and Audi - winning a Gold and Silver Lion in Cannes.
His short film Phantom, co-produced by Tony Kaye, premiered at the 1998 Berlin Film Festival.
In 2001, he founded his own production company, Chased by Cowboys, first in Paris, then in Los Angeles. After directing campaigns for Infinity, Lexus, Mercedes Benz and Ford, Nico became a leading car director in the US market, earning numerous awards. In 2004, he was invited to participate in MTV’s global campaign against racism and directed „ Flamboyant „ for the Pet Shop Boys.
Nico entered the Asian market with his work for Nissan ( Hakahodo, Tokyo ), creating campaigns in Japan, Korea and China for Toyota, Suzuki, Chevrolet and Asahi beer. Back in Europe, he shot for Adidas, Red Bull, Hornbach and O2. His work for Caritas received the Grand Prix at the Red Dot Awards, and he also won the Econ Grand Prix for his films celebrating 60 years of NATO. Most recently ( 2022 - 2025 ), Nico shot campaigns for McDonald’s, Qatar Airways, Star Alliance, BMW M,Mercedes AMG and Land Rover.
Nico is currently working on a full AI generated spot for INFOSYS and a doc-feature about MODS and subcultures of the 80’s.
